Bladder Dysfunction
Fun fact: Did you know that the female urethra (the tube that carries urine from the bladder towards exiting your body) is shorter than a man’s, making them more susceptible to a urinary tract infection.
What is a normally functioning adult bladder?
The bladder holds approximately 500-800mls.
We should wee at approximately half of its capacity.
Average times we should urinate per day is 6-8 times, and 0-1 times per night
We should urinate about 250-400mls every void, except the first morning urination which can be up to double normal daytime volumes
Urine should be pale, straw coloured, clear and not cloudy
We should drink somewhere around 1500-2000mls of fluid per day (not 2L of water plus other drinks)
This can vary based on body size, ambient temperature, types of foods eaten
Urine is not sterile If the bladder is not performing as ‘normal’, you might have a bladder issue.
