Urinary incontinence
Author: Celina Daglaras & Rachel Neate
What is it?
Involuntary leakage of urine, often with coughing, sneezing, exercise, or when unable to make it to the bathroom. Whilst it is very common, no amount of leakage is normal and you don’t have to live with it. There is the option for treatment which can make a big difference to symptoms and your overall pelvic health. What can we do? Pelvic floor physios can assess and provide tailored muscle training, bladder training and lifestyle advice. Support is available for all genders and life stages.
A few types of urinary incontinence:
Stress urinary incontinence
Urge urinary incontinence
Mixed urinary incontinence (stress and urge)
Overflow incontinence
Coital incontinence
Positional incontinence
Penetration urinary incontinence
How can you fix it?
Seeing your pelvic health physio is the first step. There are many things that contribute to incontinence. These can include weakness in the pelvic floor, overactive pelvic floor and overactive bladder. Sometimes even not breathing properly can have effects on urinary control. We can provide an assessment, determine the cause(s) and provide a treatment plan. We work closely with other health professionals to ensure all aspects of your treatment plan are covered to ensure the best chance of success!
Which appointment type do I need?
A 45 minute consultation is required if you want an internal assessment, however, Celina offers 30 minute telehealth/in-person sessions to go over all the history and provide advice.
If booking online, booking a PELVIC FLOOR APPOINTMENT is recommended for full assessment.
